Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender essential oil is obtained from the florets of the plant through steam distillation.  A large quantity of flowers are required for a minimal amount of essential oil.  English lavender (lavandula angustifolia) produces a sweet fragrance whereas the French lavender (lavandula intermedia) has a sharper overtone.

The properties of lavender essential oil are many: analgesic, antidepressant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, expectorant, diuretic, hypotensor, carminative.  This allow for it to be used extensively for many skin, health and remedial purposes.

If administering essential oil directly be aware of amounts that can be used safely.  In body/face products it is diluted so as to not create adverse effects.  Seek a qualified aromatherapist’s advice.
